How your diets affect animals’ lives?

Human beings are generally considered as omnivores. But, becoming vegan or vegetarian has become very trendy in the world now. Many people tend to move to a vegetarian/vegan dietout of concern towards their health. Anyhow, these days, many people refuse to eat meat to avoid the cruelty that animals have to face to feed themselves to humans. Since the number of people who consume meat around the world is very high, an unbelievable number of animals are slaughtered each day in animal farms and slaughterhouses in order to satisfy these consumption needs. Although there is a perception that animals such as fish, chicken, pigs, cows etc. are bred just as a form of food, that cannot be taken as a morally reasonable point as the flesh of an animal that we eat is also a whole life of an innocent sentient animal that is artificially shortened. The life of each animal living inside an animal farm is extremely pathetic and they live their entire life in agony and stress. The treatment towards these farm animals is grotesquely cruel and inhumane.
Chicken is probably the most consumed meat around the world and that’s why food items like fried chicken and chicken burgers are a must in every restaurant. On the other hand, chickens are also raised to obtain eggs. Such egg-laying chickens are kept in very small cages for its lifetime. In addition, farm chickens are fed growth hormones in order to make them grow faster to get them
to slaughter faster. It has been proven that the hormones used in this process are not good for human bodies either. Even the chickens that are not given any chemicals are still beheaded when they are considered enough to produce meat. Therefore, that fried chicken basket that you love to eat while watching your favorite movie is an innocent animal that has been raised in captivity and slaughtered in the end while feeding with many hormones and chemicals. There are vegetarians who still drink milk and most of them believe its cruelty-free. Butthe days where farmers used to pump the excess milk by hand mostly for their own consumption are long gone and now electric pumps which are really painful are used instead. These cows are given hormone stimulants and subjected to artificial insemination to produce more milk than ordinary. As soon as a calf is born, a male calf is often sent to be raised for meat and a female calf is used either for milk and meat. Moreover, these poor animals are forced to live in very filthy living conditions. When a cow is not capable to produce any more milk, they are slaughtered for ground beef. Even though it can be observed that this procedure is already cruel enough, veal industry is considered to be even worse. Just a day old baby calves are kept in cages where they can’t even move a bit and given many medications to produce pale and soft veal which are highly prized. The short life of such a calf is obviously filled with chronic stress. So the real question is whether that delicious dish is really worth the suffering that animal has to g through.
Pork is a kind of red meat and many people reject pork for health issues and religious
beliefs. But still, pig farming is also done in huge scales. Pig industry is also very similar to chicken and cow farming. A large number of pigs are kept in small spaces and they are overfed and given hormones to slaughter faster and to produce more meat. Pigs are short-lived and they have to spend that short life in unnatural living conditions which are not even a bit clean. Turkey is a highly consumed meat especially in US as turkey is considered to be a must in the dinner table in festivals such as Thanksgiving and Christmas. Turkey is a naturally aggressive animal and as a result, they are kept in dark and tiny spaces where they can’t move. These poor
birds are overfed to the point where they can’t even bear their own weight and slaughtered when they are only two years of age. It is heartbreaking how such an animal has to go through this much suffering just for humans to celebrate such happy and joyful festivals. The above-mentioned examples are about the most commonly used animals for meat. But there are many more kinds of animals that are tortured to death to produce food. Human beings are a species which were initially created to dwell on vegetables, fruits, nuts etc. In the earlier ages, eating meat was an opportunistic event done for the need to survive. On the contrary, today meat is consumed on a daily basis by the majority of the human population. Since almost all the nutrients obtained by meat can also be fulfilled by plant-based products and most of the hormones and chemicals used in animal farming have adverse effects on our health, it is safe to say that meant is not an essential item in our diet. If people can understand this and at least reduce their meat consumption lots of innocent animals will be given the greatest gift which is their own life.
